Dr. Nanditha Krishna

Dr. Nanditha Krishna is a cultural historian, environmentalist and writer based in Chennai, Nanditha Krishna has a Ph. D. in Ancient Indian Culture from Bombay University, where she was also a Heras scholar. She has been a Professor and Research Guide for the Ph.D. programme of CPR Institute of Indological Research, affiliated to the University of Madras. She was the Honorary Director from 1981 of The C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation and was elected President in 2013. She is the Founder of its constituents, including CPR Institute of Indological Research; Shakunthala Jagannathan Museum of Folk Art, Kanchipuram; and CPREnvironmental Education Centre.

She is also the President of the Conjeevaram Hindu Educational Society (SSKV Schools & Women’s College), Kanchipuram. She is the publisher of the Journal of Indian History and Culture. She is the winner of several awards including Nari Shakti Puraskar, Stree Ratna and Outstanding Woman of Asia, and has a D. Litt. (Honoris causa) from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal.

Role in the Project: 

  • Organized a preliminary meeting on September 25, 2015 to plan the project on the Bhagavata Purana under my Chairmanship. The meeting was attended by Dr. V. Mohan; Dr. G.J. Sudhakar; Dr. G. Balaji; and Dr. Sandhiya Lakshmi from CPR Institute of Indological Reseach.

  • Organized / hosted another meeting on October 5, 2015 to prepare for a major meeting with international participants.

  • As planned, the meeting with international experts took place on January 6, 2016.

  • Organized a three day National Conference on the 'Bhagavata Purana: History, Philosophy and Culture' from January 6 to 8, 2017 at the C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, Chennai, in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy, University of Madras and Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, UK. The conference was well attended by many scholars.
